TOLAINI's Picconero takes Second!! On Monday, August 30, 2010 fifteen of California's top wine tasting professionals gathered at Quince Restaurant in San Francisco to participate in a Blind Tasting Event sponsored by the Henry Wine Group. The Final Ranking of the 8 Wines: 1. Antinori Solaia The Panel of Tasters: 1. David Lynch, Quince Eight wines were poured blind for the tasters. The wines were decanted one hour before the event and poured 15 minutes before the tasting began. The panelists were told that they were tasting a selection of some of the great crus of the world, and asked to rate each wine using a 100 point scale. The tasting took forty five minutes. The wines tasted were all from the 2006 vintage. The results were tabulated by taking the average of the totals of three considerations: total points, most frequent score, and average score. The highest and lowest tasters’ scores were discarded, and the remaining 13 tasters’ scores were tabulated.
CANTINA TERLAN VORBERG 1955 AND 1983
IN APRIL 2010, WE HAD A CHANCE TO TASTE TWO OLDER VINTAGES THAT KLAUS BROUGHT FROM THE WINERY. FOR THOSE OF US WHO WERE PRESENT, WE ARE NOW SOLID BELIEVERS AND FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO WERE NOT, SORRY... YOU WILL JUST HAVE TO BELIEVE US! THE WINES WERE NOTHING SHORT OF AMAZING. IT IS EASY TO UNDERSTAND THE FAME AND RECOGNITION OF TERLANO GIVEN THE PROVEN LONGEVITY OF THEIR WINES TASTING NOTES: 1955 PINOT BIANCO FROM THE VORBERG SINGLE VINEYARDS. (12 months on lees in large oak casks) THE COLOR IS DEEP GOLDEN YELLOW WITH GREEN HUES. IN THE MOUTH A HINT OF YEAST WITH FLAVORS OF DRIED FRUIT, TOASTED NUTS AND A SLIGHT HINT OF COFFEE. NICELY BALANCED WITH WONDERFUL LIVELY ACIDITY AND A LONG HARMONIUS FINISH. RARITÀ 1983 PINOT BIANCO, FROM THE VORBERG SINGLE VINEYARDS: (12 months on lees in large oak casks and 9 years in stainless steel on fine lees).
THE COLOR IS GOLDEN YELLOW WITH GREEN REFLECTIONS. ON THE PALATE IT IS SOFT AND ROUND WITH FLAVORS OF MATURE APPLES, A HINT OF YEAST AND WHITE TARTUFO AND AN UNDERLYING VEIN OF ACIDITY FOLLOWED BY A VERY LONG AND SATISFYING AFTER TASTE.
